Over the last few days, a lot has happened in the Indian Premier League. More than the close finishes, good cricket, something else too has caught minds of people. The on-field behavior of quite a few individuals who like all Indian cricket players have a huge fan following. Yes I am talking of the two angry young men of India, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli. You’ll hear almost everyone saying you need passion to succeed in whatever field you to choose to play. Gambhir & Kohli both have that in abundance. Kohli well from his U19 days has caught eyeballs for his temper. With MS Dhoni getting into the firing line for the white washes, we all started looking for the next leaders and it was these two who were the top two in the list.  One reason why people wanted Gambhir to be captain was for he lead KKR to their first title in IPL history. Kohli, an U19 captain was doing an okay job with RCB too. And well this is exactly where all starts this year too. 

There have been occasions where Kohli has abused and yelled at fielders for their mistakes. There is an argument to counter that all players have their own way to captain teams. But as a player you yourself would not want to be abused by your captain in front of crowd, live viewers who are watching every second. It does dent the confidence of the player.  A stare, a quiet word at the end of over to just let know the player that you as a captain did not like that effort  and would want more of them. Well that’s more  of a professional approach. Not saying this because we’re used to see MS Dhoni being calm, or rather as few would say he does not even care to react.  Yes you cannot compare captaincy as a template but there is a way to respect every player who plays for your team.  Gambhir did the same with Balaji when the later bowled a poor over at the end of the innings. He made his feelings let out clear during the match itself. Well not the behavior one would ask but as they say it happens in the heat of the moment, but isn’t that the time were your real character & strength is determined?

Both of them had an ugly spat too when KKR played RCB at Bangalore. Both of them mistook it for the boxing match waiting to knock the other one down. Not that one of them was at more fault, both were equally responsible for what happened. Both of them gave each other a piece of their mind when Kohli got out.  What was good to see is that both played that incident down and kept it on the field. Kohli then has improved his behavior, not reacting wildly and that bad for misfields. Things are changing and they need to from both Gambhir and Kohli if either of them have any plans of standing a chance to be leaders.

What hurts here is that fans who like them go bonkers when their player is being criticized and jump the gun. Kohli must have got a little shock when he was being booed and called “Cheater” for what was a pretty much legitimate run-out. People assumed it to be against the spirit which I still think struggles for its survival. We don’t call a batsmen cheat when he does not walk off despite knowing he had nicked it. There we take the word of the Umpire so what not here? Crowd had their own views and they came out harsh on Kohli. There were people who said Kohli deserves this for his attitude. Well, that reaction then was more for what Kohli has done so far not for the skill that he acquired in fielding. This is what that image has done for both these players. Yes, their primary reason is to score runs and play for India and they would not worry of what people think of them. It is important to realize that to be a successful leader and great legend of the game they need to work on their on-field behavior for it will earn them fans, the real supporters and the well wishers.

They should definitely be what they are and not change their nature completely. They just need to ensure that they do not lose their chance to lead the country for their temper and channelize their aggression in the right way and behave like professionals. It is not that I hate Kohli or Gambhir. I do not hate either of them, all I want and wish for is betterment of Indian Cricket.

As India celebrates the festival of flying kites, our beloved cricket heroes did the same. Here are the events that might have taken place.   

1.Kamran Akmal could not even fly his kites, he dropped them.

2. MSD was seen upset because he could not fly his kite well and could not blame the pitch.

3.G Gambhir was not struggling to fly kites because EDGE works best in the air

4. Manoj Tiwary’s kite read ” Home is where the Bench is”.

5.English fans were caught using Vaseline to help them fly their kites well.

6. Sunil Gavaskar was angry with many people flying kites because they backed up too far and flew kites with the wrong hand.

7. Bhajji’s kites were keeping an eye on those of Ashwin’s which were pausing every minute.

8. Aussies had toughest time rotating their kites because they kept getting injured as soon as they got some heights.

9.Rohit Sharma did not fly kites , he is too talented to waste his time trying to prove it.

10. Rahul Dravid won the award for the safest flyer  because he allowed all kites to flow past him and was only one who flew them till the end.

11. Ashok Dinda was so enthusiastic for his kites that he kept bowling I mean jumping regularly to watch their progress.

12. Trott was left stranded since by the time all flew their kites and went home, Trott was busy marking his guard

13. Zaheer Khan’s kites could not fly high because they had to be retreated due to injury scare at regular intervals.

14. SL team won the competition but could not take the award because they had not decided on the captain of their team.

15. SA team was caught arguing over the score of their kites in rainy conditions. 

16. Yuvraj’s kite flew well and high on broad medium pace but later could not adjust to the spin.

17. Sir Ravi Jadeja won the award for flying kite for Triple the normal height that too twice in the flat sky.

18. V Kohli’s kite was the only which kept asking for a call to locate it’s position. 

19. P Chawla’s kite always remained in the frame for it’s past of goggling a single kite by mistake.

20.S Afridi won the award for being the youngest kid to fly kites.

21. Ian Bell’s kite remained cautious to not rest during any tea breaks.

22. S Broad appealed everytime a kite came closer.

23.Michael Clarke was judged the best flyer for his ability to always keep declaring his kites before time.

24. Ravi Shastri flew kites with his doctor to catch hold of his feelings.

25. Mahela Jayawardena struggled to fly kites outside SL.

26. A Flower was always near rooms to ask people to allow his players to fly kites again

27. B Hodge and Badrinath won the awards for being the best Domestic kite flyers.

28. Mahela Jaywardena kept a piece of paper with D/L scores despite their being no prediction for Rains. 

29. Ajmal kept flying the Doosra kites. 

30. S Ganguly gifted a special big hearted kite sponsored by Sunny Gavaskar to Ashok Dinda.

6. Rahul sharma will strictly drink only Frooti in all parties

7. Shahid Afridi will celebrate his 18th birthday better than the he did last time.

8. Arun Lal will try to comment more on Cricket than on birds and ties.

9. Ross Taylor will look to go offside.

10. G Smith and R Levi will recognize about the existence of offside.

11. India vs Sri Lanka will become a daily soap series. (BCCI likes this)

12. Ravi Shastri will meet his doctor and stop getting the feelings.

Bowled him !! Right between the bat and pad !! No batsman in the world likes to hear the rattle of the stumps, And in past week , certain dismissals have caused an outrage. While one section of fans are trying to be brave and honest to accept that the end is near, plenty are all pumped up to insult anyone just because their idol is being spoken out badly. Yes I am talking about The Voldemort of Indian Cricket, no before you crucify me for calling him that, he is not bad just that he is the #YouKnowWho of India.

No one in the world can question the ability,dedication and contribution of Sachin to Indian Cricket, but every player has a weak point so does Sachin. I have read this at many places that people say “Sachin, is the reason for us to follow Cricket, If no Sachin no Cricket”, well if you say so what makes you be proud and stamp yourself as a cricket fan? If you loved him so much as a player, be brave enough to accept that game does go away with age. You not accepting will not change the fact. But then, how can I speak ill for him? Does being a Fan mean that you support your player blindly ? Should we not think of both sides of the coin ?

These days, cricket team fans are defined easily as they will insult their own fellow team members just because their favorite players are being criticized. 

It’s not bad to be emotional with players, but to flow in emotions and ignore facts is not the correct way. Yes back your player to come out strong and score more.No one wishes to see a legend struggle, we all miss his terrific fearless batting, but to shout out loudly that he is Sachin we cannot question him,then why do you support him ? When you support a player be mad to support him and equally honest enough to accept the truth. If you judge people by name and not game, I doubt if you understand it was your game that gave your name the fame.  People forget that if a player contributes everyone including team members are happy.

When Dravid was getting out repeatedly, jokes like Wall has a gate came up and so much more and this was despite him being the highest scorer for India in England series. When Laxman started to fail, they began saying no more special, not good enough as he was. If you judge them that easily and openly why not judge your own favorite player in the same way? 

Runs are scored by the batsman in the middle with his bat and neither by the name nor by number of fans he has. If you go and watch film, you appreciate if it’s good but you boast loudly about you wasting your time if you did not like it, right? At his moment, Do you question yourself that are you eligible enough to talk about it? Have you made any film before to have a right to comment on it? 

We all are lovers of the game, Sachin is still a legend, will always be a special player.I cherish memories of the Sachin’s Upper Cut to Shoaib Akhtar in WC03 , his hook shot to Andrew Caddick, his exploits against Warne and A Qadir. I’ll call my self lucky to have watched him bat. But if I appreciate him enough, I hold the right to analyze him as I do with other players.

This blog was not written to blame Sachin fans for anything, or show my hate or support to him.It’s just an urge for fans to love the team as much as they love their players and remember the words of Sachin Tendulkar himself : “Isn’t cricket supposed to be a team sport? I feel people should decide first whether cricket is a team game or an individual sport.”

It’s been more than a year we started talking/tweeting , thanks to #WellOfCourse Twitter for getting us together. Yes that’s where came the feeling of having a brotherly friend too far yet too close J. Not many understood me as much as you did and continue to do. I really miss cricket talks that we do discussing Rahul Dravid and we had previewed the England tour of India with so much enthu :P .Sigh.
